Gipsy Hill Station Accessibility Campaign Supported by Member of Parliament and Local Community

Gipsy Hill Station's Platform 2 inaccessibility has been a long-standing challenge. Eddie Kämpgen, a local father and journalism student, took the initiative to launch the Step-Free, Step Forward Gipsy Hill campaign, seeking change for the betterment of his community. 

Kämpgen 's personal experience navigating the station with a stroller led him to recognize the countless difficulties faced by wheelchair users, parents with children, and those with mobility challenges. His campaign gained traction as residents voiced their concerns, highlighting the urgent need for improvements. 

The movement caught the attention of Member of Parliament Helen Hayes, who acknowledged the accessibility concerns and extended her support. In a letter to Mr. Kampgen, she expressed her commitment to addressing the issue, stating, "I have recently been contacted by Cllr Christine Banton on your behalf with regards to the accessibility of platform 2 at Gipsy Hill station." This direct engagement from the local MP further strengthens the campaign's significance and increases the likelihood of positive change. 

Local community members, such as Stephanie Duckworth Porras, shared their experiences and emphasized the importance of improved accessibility: "I use this station daily and often wish platform 2 was easier to access, not to mention for people with young children or wheelchairs. How can they manage?" Another concerned resident, Michelle Bhatia, echoed these sentiments, saying, "step-free access is vital for so many people; without it, many are unable to use the station."
