Amidst the exuberant beauty of Culpeper Community Garden in Islington, the garden faces various challenges. Conflicts with the Garden Committee and disturbances during late hours put its resilience to the test.

Located in the heart of Angel, Borough of Islington, the Culpeper Community Garden has been a beloved green zone for four decades. Residents like Barbara, a retired Polish lady, hold a special place for the garden in their hearts, seeing the growth of families and generations over the years.
Barbara, an enthusiastic supporter of the garden, has invested both her money and effort to create a nurturing space where people can gather and enjoy nature's wonders. " “We putted so much money and effort on this Garden to let people parting on it overnight.”
She expressed her concerns, fearing that their hard work could be undone overnight.
Living just down the road from the garden, Barbara has seen her children and grandchildren grow up amid its charming spots. For over four decades, first idealized by a teacher, the Culpeper Community Garden has played a pivotal role in their lives, supplying a safe and beautiful venue for family gatherings and cherished memories.

Despite its charm and significance, Barbara points some worries. She mentions that the park is supposed to be locked by 6 pm, every day, but this does not always happen. “Children coming, school holidays now, drinkers coming, and I don’t want to have anything to do with it,” said Barbara.
She also shared an unfortunate experience, saying, " “Because when you come on your own and there is no one around, they abuse you, they thrown stones at you”
It is a lovely community garden; but it is not always what you think it is” Barbara finds herself at odds with the new management committee, as they propose keeping the garden open 24/7.
On the other hand, Adrian Oxnam, a 22-year-old graphic design university student, recently visited the garden with his friends who were in town. He offered a distinct perspective, saying, "I came by two weeks ago, and there were groovy people playing music at the end of the garden, which I found quite nice."
Oxnam's experience highlights the youngsters’ perspective of what the space represents to them.
Despite the challenges, the Culpeper Community Garden stays an amazing space where the community and nature intertwine. Individuals like Barbara, with their dedication, will continue to shape the future of this green space. The garden stands symbolizing decades of resilience, and the enduring spirit of the community it serves.
